My rock journalism blockbuster “Strange Days” now available as $3.99 audiobook

An interesting email from Amazon/Kindle Direct Publishing yesterday, regarding my beloved memoir Strange Days: The Adventures of a Grumpy Rock ‘n’ Roll Journalist in Los Angeles:

Congratulations! You’re invited to participate in KDP’s beta for audiobooks. Starting today, you can now produce audiobook versions of your eligible eBooks using virtual voice narration and reach new customers by making them available on Amazon, Audible, and Alexa.

Despite my skepticism about anything “beta” or “virtual,” I followed the four easy steps, and within an hour Amazon sent a congratulatory follow-up to advise that your audiobook “Strange Days” is now live and available for purchase in the Amazon Store and on Audible.

The best part was choosing my virtual narrator. There were dozens of contenders: American, American South, Australian and English accents, both male and female. I went with an authoritative Englishman, but am open to mixing it up. The audiobook is priced at just $3.99, the lowest possible. It’s also free with an Audible trial.

I also set up a $3.99 audiobook for a more recent labor of love, a Depression-era colonial memoir that I rescued from obscurity and edited and published in 2020, Just Me: The Life Story of a Nobody, by Susan McKearney. I’m very proud of this humble lady’s extremely opinionated book, and hope it will reach a wider audience in this new format.
